Shake Shack

St. Louis is the hometown of Shake Shack’s founder, Danny Meyer, so the first St. Louis location in particular was a meaningful one for the company. When the New York-based construction team started asking around for the best GC in St. Louis, they were surprised to find that one name kept coming up over and over – Spiegelglass Construction. We were especially honored to be awarded the project – the first in a series we’ve built in the Midwest - because we had also built restaurants for Danny Meyer’s father many years ago. And the St. Louis opening with Clydesdales and a red carpet? One for the memory books!

Owner John Kim was looking for a strategic partner to support his ambitious growth plans. He knew he needed a company that could handle everything from doing a full design-build to serving as a construction manager and directing an extensive group of vendors, partners and subcontractors. Over the course of multiple locations, Spiegelglass was the “quarterback” - a role that included everything from scouting out potential location sites to sourcing affordable materials and everything in between.

The Arch Café

When Spiegelglass Construction was asked to build the new café at the base of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, the team was ecstatic. Our business began in 1904, the year of the World’s Fair, near the Arch in downtown St. Louis, so the opportunity to build on the Gateway Arch grounds nearly 110 years later was monumental. The 1,600-squre-foot Arch Café, which serves farm-to-table food, is the first ever restaurant inside the Gateway Arch.

When start-up St. Louis Bread Company (which now operates as Panera) was looking for a partner to manage construction due to its rapid growth in the 1990s, the founding owners turned to Spiegelglass Construction. Today, Spiegelglass continues to work with Panera on the concept’s evolution and has bid and built more than 400 locations with corporate and franchise owners in St. Louis and throughout the Midwest.

First Watch

Spiegelglass prides itself on longstanding client relationships, and for over a decade, we have built more than a dozen locations for First Watch, each in an aggressive timeframe and often completed ahead of schedule. When the chain decided to do a redesign on several of the original locations, the team reached out to Spiegelglass once again to complete the projects after hours so there was no disruption to their business.

Fitz’s SoCo

After working together on numerous projects, the owner of Fitz’s Root Beer again reached out to Spiegelglass Construction to build Fitz’s SoCo, the new South County location of the storied brand. The 9,000-square-foot restaurant, which seats more than 200 people inside with additional seating on the patio, includes a working vintage bottling line viewable from the main dining room, an old-fashioned dairy bar and a private room for large parties.

Omega Watch – Plaza Frontenac – St. Louis, MO

High-end watches demand a high-end storefront, and Omega’s Frontenac location is no exception. Spiegelglass was asked to receive, inspect and install more than 30 custom-made Italian fixtures, and build or install - to exacting standards - custom casework, an alarm system and security glass.

KOHLER showroom – St. Louis, MO and Indianapolis, IN

Spiegelglass was charged with the crucial task of maintaining brand standards and design integrity for the first KOHLER showrooms in St. Louis and Indianapolis, among some of the first showrooms in the U.S. We built out flawless transitions to highlight the distinct finishes in each area and mastered the intricate plumbing and electrical requirements for the showering solutions and controls.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams – Oak Brook, IL and Frontenac, MO

In Chicago’s Oakbrook Shopping Center and St. Louis’ Frontenac Plaza, Spiegelglass built two awe-inspiring “Signature Stores” for the home furnishing brand with fine touches including white marble floors and Level Five drywall finishes. The Frontenac location combined two previously occupied split-level stores using ramps and stairs, while the Oak Brook location included a magnificent 230 foot long by 30 foot tall brand new storefront.

Shane Company – St. Louis, MO

Shane Company owners asked Spiegelglass to turn a 17,000 square foot grocery store into the “biggest jewelry store in the Midwest”. In just 16 weeks, Spiegelglass renovated the interior with improvements such as LED lighting to showcase the products, and the exterior which included specially sourced stones from Italy and Rudy Art Glass for the windows.

Spiegelglass worked with Dr. Stacey Wallach to create a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital with Epoxy floors and the space needed to serve pets and pet owners alike. In just nine weeks, Spiegelglass built the 3,000 square foot hospital while following all veterinary guidelines and ensuring a clean and sanitary environment for both owners and pets.

The Venue at Maison du Lac – Catawissa, MO

The owners of Ces & Judy’s Catering had worked with Spiegelglass several times, going back to 1994, so when they were ready to build out a 7,000 square-foot contemporary event space just outside of Eureka, they reached out to Spiegelglass to evaluate the site before they purchased the property. Set on 25 acres of countryside property, the private event estate features high ceilings, state-of-the-art sound and lighting, striking 12 and 18-foot windows offering panoramic views and natural light and a well-lit, paved parking lot with easy access to the property.

Helium Comedy Club – St. Louis, MO

Based on a recommendation from the St. Louis Galleria, the owners of Helium asked Spiegelglass Construction to build out an 11,000 square foot space for their comedy club and restaurant. Spiegelglass gutted the lower level to construct the performance areas, bars and restaurant, coordinated mechanical with neighboring construction projects, and managed low voltage wiring to ensure proper A/V and lighting for the stages

Jewish Community Center’s Fitness Center/ Marilyn Fox Building – Chesterfield, MO

At the Jewish Community Center’s Marilyn Fox building in Chesterfield, Spiegelglass updated and completely renovated the 6,500 square-foot fitness center, including a functional training studio, group exercise studio, mind-body studio, and cycle studio. Men’s and women’s locker rooms with steam rooms and saunas were also elegantly remodeled.

Ces & Judy’s Catering/ Commissary – Frontenac, MO

To accommodate the growing needs of its off-premise catering business, Ces & Judy’s Catering asked Spiegelglass Construction to build a 5,000-square-foot commissary in Frontenac. As a preferred caterer for more than 30 venues around St. Louis, the company needed plenty of space to prepare food for weddings, corporate events and social gatherings.

Temple Israel – Creve Coeur, MO

As part of a multi-phased project, Temple Israel was looking to update its 50+ year-old building. Spiegelglass started with updating parts of the main building, and then built out a truly stunning entrance for the early childhood center, with automatic doors, new sidewalks, stairs and ramps, and a sophisticated canopy that students can safely sit under during carpool pickup.

Restaurant Construction - St. Louis

When we decided to open a Rock & Brews in St. Louis, we were very deliberate and thoughtful in choosing our design and construction partners. We asked numerous architects, real estate professionals, property owners and restaurateurs which general contractor could achieve the high standards of our executive management team including KISS frontmen and founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons; and one name came up time and time again- Spiegelglass Construction. Spiegelglass exceeded our expectations in achieving our highly publicized opening date and delivered the building to our staff with every detail closed out. Their highly engaged and remarkable team took care of everything, allowing us to focus on our business.

- Brandon Brensing, Partner, Rock & Brews St. Louis

After years of working with different GC's with anywhere from frustrating to criminal outcomes, I started working with Spiegelglass. The quick, professional and reliable work is so refreshing and I am glad to have a builder that I can trust to get the job done right and on time for all my future projects.

-Tom Schmidt, owner, Salt + Smoke

When we came to Tim Spiegelglass, we were looking for a trustworthy, experienced general contractor to help us in our restaurant’s expansion. Over the past decade, Spiegelglass Construction has built multiple locations throughout the Midwest region, and they will continue to be my go-to contractor. They have been hands-on with every step of the process and have exceeded my initial expectations. I would highly recommend Spiegelglass Construction to anyone looking for a long-term business partner to support their company’s development.

- John Kim, Wasabi Sushi Bar

When we relocated our business to Clayton after 30 years, we needed to partner with the right contractor to get the job done right, on time and under budget. Spiegelglass Construction was the ideal partner. With their expertise, we were able to get our facility exactly the way we wanted it and the job was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Time and time again, Spiegelglass found ways to save us money without compromising the appeal and functionality of the space. Customer reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. I would recommend Spiegelglass to any business opening a new facility or relocating.
